House Democrats are preparing investigations into Donald Trump, his family and his administration. The key word is preparing. Republicans still control the House. Democrats cannot carry out the sweeping committee investigations described in this week’s headlines unless they win the majority in November.
The planning is real, though. The Associated Press reports that Democrats across several committees are mapping out an oversight agenda. Reuters reported in August that lawmakers and aides had discussed hearings, subpoenas and document requests aimed at companies and financial firms connected to Trump’s political and business circles. Some Democrats have already sent letters requesting records.
