Morning Cup — July 22, 2026

Good morning folks!
I got to sleep in past 7am today so I am going to consider that a win!
Hope everyone is feeling well and ready for the 2nd half of the week.
The Progressive Movement Is Front and Center
National outlets are increasingly framing the upcoming primaries as a battle between the Democratic establishment and the growing progressive movement. We can see that. Michigan remains one of the biggest focal points, with Abdul El-Sayed continuing to receive national attention as one of the most closely watched progressive candidates in the country. I really think he is going to win folks…
That alone tells an important story.
Just a few years ago, progressive candidates were treated as long shots. Today, they’re shaping the national conversation. Whether establishment Democrats like it or not, voters are demanding something different.
The next few weeks could determine not only who wins Senate seats—but what the Democratic Party looks like for the next decade.
I am not going to lie to you, im a bit nervous… but inspired.
Congress Moves to Avoid a Shutdown
The House approved a temporary government funding bill that would keep the government operating through early December.
Now the bill heads to the Senate, where negotiations are expected to become much harder. Both parties can generally agree a shutdown should be avoided, disagreements over spending priorities and immigration remain major sticking points.
Expect this to become one of the biggest stories heading into September.
More antics are sure to come up before the midterms.
Overseas Conflict Continues
The conflict involving Iran continued overnight.
According to multiple reports:
- U.S. military operations continued for another consecutive night.
- Iran claimed it launched additional drone attacks targeting U.S. military facilities in the region.
- President Trump signaled he may consider expanding military operations further.
As always, these situations evolve rapidly, so expect updates throughout the day.
I also want to note that we have been bombing iran now almost EVERY DAY for the last few months.
Immigration & Federal Courts
A federal judge temporarily blocked immigration authorities from deporting a witness connected to the fatal ICE shooting in Houston earlier this month.
Separately, another federal judge paused Trump administration efforts that would revoke work authorization for thousands of asylum seekers and immigrants with Temporary Protected Status while litigation continues.
Both cases could have significant implications for immigration policy moving forward.
Final Sip
One thing is becoming increasingly clear:
This election isn’t just about Democrats versus Republicans.
It’s about what kind of Democratic Party emerges from this moment.
The people have the chance to REALLY make a democratic party that works for the people.
Will voters choose an establishment focused on cautious incrementalism,(God I hope not) or a progressive movement demanding structural change?
Over the next few weeks, we’re going to start getting that answer loud and clear.
Have a great Wednesday, stay informed, take care of yourselves, and as always...
Keep fighting for people.
