Morning Cup — May 12, 2026
What happened when you were dreaming of a better tomorrow? Let me break it down for you...;)

Inflation hits 3.8% — highest since 2023
The April CPI report dropped this morning and it's bad. Inflation jumped to 3.8% annually, the highest reading since May 2023. Energy is the main driver — gas prices are up 28.4% over the past year. Groceries had their biggest monthly jump since August 2022. And real wages fell 0.3% annually, meaning your paycheck is officially losing the fight. The Iran war's oil shock is the through-line on all of it.
Iran peace talks on "massive life support"
Over the weekend, Trump rejected Iran's latest ceasefire counteroffer, calling it "totally unacceptable." Iran demanded war reparations, sovereignty over the Strait of Hormuz, and an end to sanctions — before any nuclear talks. Trump wants nuclear commitments up front. Neither side is budging. The White House is now describing the ceasefire as on "massive life support," and CNN reports some Pentagon officials are pushing for escalation — more strikes — to pressure Iran back to the table.
Trump floats suspending the gas tax
In a CBS News phone interview, Trump said he’s looking at suspending the federal gas tax. No timeline, no details. Just a talking point while inflation is at a three-year high.
Supreme Court temporarily keeps abortion pill access intact
The Court extended access to mifepristone while it continues mulling a legal challenge that could block mail delivery of the drug. No final ruling yet — just a temporary extension while the case plays out.
