Morning Cup: Seattle Wakes Up Heartbroken

Good morning. Usually this is where we break down the news that happened overnight. Today is different.

Last night at around 6pm PST, just steps from my neighborhood, gunfire shattered what should of been an evening of music, food, and community.

Three people were killed. Others, including a young child, were injured.

Today, Seattle is mourning.

Seattle Center is where families celebrate birthdays, tourists discover the city, and neighbors gather on summer evenings.

Violence in a place like that doesn't just take lives. It changes how a community experiences one of its most cherished public spaces.

Last night, thousands of Seattleites gathered not because they had answers, but because they refused to let tragedy have the final word.

This morning, our city grieves. We remember those who were lost, hope for the recovery of those who were injured, and wait for answers with patience.

I’ll continue following this story as more verified information becomes available.

Sorry for the short update today. It is taking me some time to process this, so close to home.

I will be covering this, as well as the vigil tonight at the fountain.

Please stay safe.
