Three Days Until Election Day: America Is Voting, Republicans Are Nervous, and the Courts Are Stepping In

Good morning, everyone!
I'm Sean Bartley and this is your Morning Cup.
Happy Halloween! 🎃
Please, send me your costume on threads! I want to see you!
We're officially three days away from the 2026 midterm elections, and the political landscape is getting increasingly interesting.
Early voting is surging. Republicans are fighting to protect their congressional majorities. Democrats are looking at opportunities in states that were once considered safely Republican.
And with Election Day approaching, the fight over who gets to vote and how those votes are counted is intensifying.
Grab your coffee. We've got plenty to discuss.
🔴 EARLY VOTING IS SURGING ACROSS AMERICA
Americans aren't waiting until Tuesday.
According to an Associated Press analysis, more than 43 million Americans had already voted as of Wednesday, nearly 10 million more than at the same point before the 2022 midterms.
And some of the biggest increases are happening in competitive Senate states.
Texas saw early voting increase by 50%. Maine jumped 44%. Kansas climbed 34%, and Michigan increased 32%.
That's significant.
But let's be clear: Higher turnout doesn't automatically translate into a Democratic victory. Early voting figures tell us who's participating, not necessarily which candidates they're supporting.
What we do know is that Americans are showing up in enormous numbers.
And with three days remaining, the stakes couldn't be higher.

🔴 A JUDGE ORDERS THE JUSTICE DEPARTMENT TO BACK OFF ELECTION WORKERS
A federal judge has temporarily blocked the Justice Department from threatening or intimidating California election officials.
The order, issued Friday, comes as tensions grow over federal involvement in election administration.
According to ABC News, the temporary restraining order remains in effect through November 16, well beyond Election Day.
This is a serious development.
Election workers should be able to administer elections without intimidation or improper political pressure.
Our elections depend on the people counting ballots being able to do their jobs.
Protecting that process shouldn't be controversial.

🔴 TRUMP RETURNS TO THE CAMPAIGN TRAIL AS REPUBLICANS FIGHT FOR CONTROL
President Donald Trump is making a final push to help Republicans hold Congress.
After initially canceling planned weekend appearances in Iowa and Kansas, Trump shifted his campaign plans, with additional in-person rallies back on the schedule.
Republicans are defending their House majority and a 53-47 advantage in the Senate.
And several races that once looked comfortable are attracting national attention.
For Republicans, this election is about preserving control of Congress.
For Democrats, it's an opportunity to put a check on Trump's administration.
The president isn't on the ballot, but his political agenda certainly is.

🔴 TEXAS COULD DELIVER ONE OF ELECTION NIGHT'S BIGGEST SURPRISES
Keep your eyes on Texas.
Democrat James Talarico is challenging Republican Ken Paxton in a Senate race that could help determine control of the chamber.
Reuters reports that shifting Latino voter preferences and Paxton's unfavorable ratings among women have created potential openings for Democrats.
Texas hasn't elected a Democrat to the U.S. Senate in decades.
But this election is attracting extraordinary attention, and turnout is already running well ahead of 2022.
A Democratic victory would be a major political upset.
It's far from guaranteed, but Texas is absolutely worth watching Tuesday night.

🔴 MICHIGAN DEMOCRATS ARE STILL FIGHTING EACH OTHER
With Election Day just days away, Michigan Democrats are dealing with renewed tensions between Senate nominee Abdul El-Sayed and former primary rival Rep. Haley Stevens.
Stevens criticized El-Sayed over campaign messaging connecting U.S. aid to Israel with economic pressures at home.
El-Sayed has called for unity as he faces Republican Mike Rogers.
Here's my concern.
Democrats have spent months telling voters how important this election is. If that's true, then party leaders need to act like it.
The primary is over.
Voters chose their nominee.
At some point, Democrats have to stop reopening old fights and focus on winning the election in front of them.

🔴 WASHINGTON: YOUR BALLOT IS WAITING
For those of us here in Washington state, ballots are already out.
You don't need to wait until Tuesday to make your voice heard.
Make sure you've completed your ballot, signed the return envelope, and returned it through an official ballot drop box or by mail.
Washington ballots must be deposited in an official drop box by 8 p.m. on Election Day or postmarked by November 3.
And remember, these elections aren't just about Congress.
Local and statewide races affect housing, transportation, education, public safety, and the communities we live in.

🔴 THE BIG PICTURE: THREE DAYS TO GO
Here's where we stand.
Millions of Americans have already voted.
Republicans are fighting to maintain control of Congress.
Democrats see an opportunity to change the balance of power.
And the courts are already being asked to intervene in disputes involving election administration.
But none of this is decided.
Polls aren't votes. Early turnout isn't a final result. And political predictions don't determine who wins.
Voters do.
If you've already voted, thank you. If you haven't, make a plan.
And if someone in your life needs a reminder, give them one.
Three days.
That's how close we are.
