🚨Trump Says He Is Banning CNN, MS NOW and Politico From the White House

FOLKS...The attack on the free and fair press has taken a very dark turn.

President Donald Trump announced Friday that he is banning CNN, MS NOW and Politico from the White House, saying the decision takes effect immediately.

In a Truth Social post, Trump accused the three organizations of publishing “fake news,” “fiction” and “lies” in their coverage of his presidency and administration.

Then came another significant part of the announcement: Trump said other media organizations would follow.

Both the Associated Press and Reuters independently confirmed Trump's announcement Friday. Reuters reported that CNN, MS NOW, Politico and the National Press Club had not immediately responded to requests for comment.

Exactly what Trump's “ban” means operationally remains unclear. One report noted that the White House had not yet issued formal guidance detailing whether the announcement affects credentials, specific events or broader access.

That distinction matters legally. The First Amendment protects freedom of the press, but it does not give every journalist unrestricted access to every government event. Restrictions on access can nevertheless raise constitutional questions when journalists allege they are being excluded in retaliation for their reporting or viewpoint.

This also isn't happening in isolation.

In 2025, the Trump administration restricted Associated Press journalists' access to certain White House events after the AP declined to adopt Trump's preferred name for the Gulf of Mexico. The AP sued, and that litigation remains ongoing.

Now three more major news organizations are being targeted, and the president himself says there could be more.

Why independent journalism matters right now

There is a much bigger story underneath today's headline.

A healthy press cannot depend on whether the person occupying the White House likes what journalists are reporting about them.

Journalists are supposed to investigate government, question officials, verify claims, uncover wrongdoing and publish information that people in power may very much prefer remained unpublished.

Organizations dedicated to press freedom describe independent reporting as an important mechanism for giving the public information needed to make decisions and hold powerful institutions accountable.

And that makes supporting independent journalism especially important at moments when access to information itself is becoming part of the political fight.

Cup of Culture is independent journalism. We're building something that doesn't require permission from a cable network or massive corporate newsroom to report what's happening.

The bigger this publication becomes, the more reporting we can do.
